Q. Do I need a mat? A. Yes practicing on a mat is much more comfortable than the floor or carpet. Sticky mats are non-slip, cushioned and come in a range of colours and prices.
Q. Do I need props? A. Some people find props useful, a couple of blocks and a belt is the most you will need. You may find that you already have suitable items at home that can be used instead.
Q. What do I wear? A. Stretchy comfortable clothing is the best.
Q. Is it a religion? A. No yoga is not a religion and it does not require you to worship any being (including the teacher!)
Q. Do I need to be vegetarian/vegan to come to class? A. What you eat is up to you, all I would suggest is that you don't have a heavy meal within 2.5 hours of coming to class as you may feel quite uncomfortable!
Q. Am I too.... A. No! Yoga is about you and your relationship with yourself, whichever starting point you find yourself at, remember it is a starting point for you to move on from, and not a place to compare yourself with others.
Q. What is vinyasa yoga? A. Originating from Ashtanga Vinyasa, which became popular in the west when Pattabhi Jois began teaching western students, vinyasa flow has more fluid sequencing in comparison to the more static nature of Iyengar yoga.
Q. What will it do for me? A. Like all yoga it has both physical and mental benefits, the synchronisation between breath and movement will help to calm your mind.
